How to Plan a Smooth Kiosk Installation: A Brief Checklist

Ensuring a seamless and hassle-free kiosk installation involves proper planning and coordination. Here’s a concise checklist to help you merchandise and trade smoothly from the next morning.

  1. Design Approval: Once the brand finalizes the design, it must be reviewed and approved by the landlord. Following this, detailed shop drawings, 3D renderings, and samples should be approved to commence manufacturing at the contractor’s factory, including a mock-up installation.
  2. Marking Location and Orientation: The exact location of the kiosk, as per the lease agreement, should be marked in the presence of the mall’s retail delivery team and the contractor. Confirm the orientation, particularly the direction of the pylon signage.
  3. Work Permit: The tenant must apply for a work permit, including contractor details, through the mall’s retail delivery team.
  4. Coordination with Mall Facilities Management (FM) Team: Inform the FM team about the scheduled night-time kiosk installation to ensure their technical team is prepared to manage power requirements during the installation.
  5. Notification to Mall Security Team: If the work permit is provided as an email confirmation rather than a signed form, inform the security team during the day about the night installation schedule. This prevents delays caused by the night duty team needing additional confirmation.
  6. Safety Protocols: The contractor’s installation team must adhere to safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes and gloves, to avoid any hazards.
  7. Access to the Floor Box: Ensure the floor box containing power and data outlets is accessible after installation. If the kiosk’s floor base does not align with the mall’s floor box, modify the kiosk’s base accordingly before installation. This alignment is crucial for future access by internet service providers (Etisalat, Du) or the tenant’s IT team.
  8. Floor Protection: Protect the landlord’s property, usually tiled surfaces, by placing a floor protection layer (such as carpet inlay) under the kiosk. This prevents damage and scratch marks, ensuring the space can be returned in its original condition when vacating.
